2001 postseason

Round Date Opponent Location Result
Wild Card November 3rd 2001 vs. Gibsonburg Krotzer Field- Gibsonburg, Ohio Lost, 16-7

-It was a very quick start for the Flyers, who qualified for the tournament after an 8-2 regular season campaign. It took just 72 seconds for Matt Grose and St. Paul to break the scoring ice as the sophomore sliced through the line untouched for a 30-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately for the visitors, that would be the extent of the highlights as Grose succumbed to a knee injury later in the first quarter. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears scored twice and added a pair of 2-point conversions in the second quarter to take a 16-7 halftime lead. Led by 270-lb fullback Jamie Laplant, the Bears went 93 yards on 18 plays for a lead they would not relinquish. St. Paul's comeback hopes were dealt a severe blow when it fumbled at the goal line in the early stages of the fourth quarter. It was St. Paul's 16th postseason game, and the first in which it was penalty-free.

- 2001 was the year of the interception for the Flyer defense. St. Paul established school records for interceptions in a season (29) and in one game (7 - South Central).

- In the game against Gibsonburg, Bryan Pickens set a school record for tackles in a game with 31.

- Kicker Chris White set school records for PATs in a game (7) and kickoffs in a game (10) against South Central.

- For the fourth time in school history, St. Paul had two 1,000-yard backs in a season: Bryan Pickens (1,242) and Matt Grose (1,025).

- St. Paul's 55-29 win vs. Monroeville in week six set two new records in the rivalry: It was the most points ever scored by the Flyers and the most combined total points in the history of the series.
