NORWALK - It was back to the usual results for the St. Paul football team Saturday night at Warren Whitney Field as the Flyers scored 49 points in the first half of a 55-12 win over visiting New London.

With the win, St. Paul improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Firelands Conference. The Flyers will be 8th in the Division VI Region 21 computer points standings, just .0125 points behind 7th place Monroeville.

The two teams are set to meet in Week 10 at Marsh Field.

"The kids came out and played a solid game," St. Paul coach John Livengood said. "That was important after last week's loss to bounce back. I'm happy to come out with the win.

St. Paul opened with a 57-yard run by Isaac Livengood to the New London 6-yard line where Adam Smith jogged in the next play. Scottie Slauterbeck's first of seven extra points made it 7-0 just 31 seconds into the game.

Five minutes later around New London punts, a two-yard touchdown run by Livengood and an eight-yard touchdown pass from Joe Hinckley to Ian Welch made it 21-0.

New London answered with a 13-yard pass from Clay Hall to Dane Held to make it 21-6 after the first quarter. Hall finished 17-of-37 passing for 282 yards, which Livengood said was not a good sign.

"That's something we need to get better at," he said. "We didn't defend the pass very well, but give New London credit. Their quarterback and receivers did a nice job running routes and making plays."

The Flyers erased any doubt with four touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 49-6 halftime lead.

Livengood scored on runs of 4 and 7 while Hinckley ran in from 13 yards out and Eric Bradt scored on a 33-yard run.

In the third quarter, Danny Ross cracked the end zone for the first time this year on an 11-yard run. Ross missed all of the two-a-day schedule and several games from an injury.

St. Paul ran for 463 yards, led by Livengood with 138 on nine attempts and Bradt with 113 on 10 attempts. Adam Smith added 68 yards on eight attempts and Hinckley ran for 34 yards on two attempts while completing 5-of-9 passes for 80 yards.

St. Paul is at Plymouth (2-6, 2-3) next Friday.
